happy national day!

hey hey.. i know i said i wont be back here till prelims are over, but hey!! its NATIONAL DAY!! and aren't we all proud to be part of this wonderful city state? So i am taking this opportunity to wish this country, that has been accomodating me and educating me for the past 12 years, a happy 40th birthday!! -lots of confetti and the popper thingies-

Have you seen the national day video presentation/film? the one where they have the heads of state's quote appear, then they show these inspirational clips of "40 Singaporeans from all walks of life reflect on their hopes and aspirations. Together, they form a mosaic that is distinctly Singaporean."
ya know? okay.. if not, you can watch it here.

quite cool la.. i like the recurring piano theme.. has this mesmerizing effect on people.. ok, it might just be me.. so ya.... but the funny thing is that some people like the "matchmaker" and some "service woman" are included.. i mean, its not that i dont like the anti-elitist thing that the government is trumpeting... but matchmaker?!?!! oh well... oh.. and after a while it sorta reminded me of the beginning in reality TV shows, ya know.. like say survivor..... then they have these people appearing in those heroic poses, ya know, the looking toward the sky, having the sunlight hit them in the stratetgic placing that will put them in the best... err, light.. ya.. and also showing them at work..which some was quite cool.. like the 12 year old national wakeboarder, lionel lewis, the national keeper, and even the military ones.. but matchmaker?!?!?! so yeah.. something for you to think about over the national day hols..

Also, if you heard the Prime minister's national day message, i think one thing stood out the most.. its the part where he justified the creation of the Integrated resort.. his arguement was that the internationalised cities of the world, like london, paris, shanghai and new york are always seeking to make themselves different, and that the cities are always evolving in their areas of forte and empahsis, therefore the integrated resort is part of the singapore being evolving, and to differentiate itself, to gain the "X-factor" on top of attracting tourists.

i think its quite squirrely the way he sorta just avoided going into the further issues pertaining to the integrated resort thing..and also the quick and maybe slippery slope arguement he used to justify it... ah well, at least he mentioned it..

so yes people, i am going back to study now.. happy national day folds!!
