Greetings from (what should have been the capital of) Australia!
The place here is really marvellous, blue skies, clear water, friendly people, more gorgeous people and equally great food! Went to see the botanical gardens and it was marvellous! i wish i could show pictures, but i'll have to wait till im back home.
Really, i could, and i would just roll around in the lawn all day.... Just if i ever wanted to feel like a mongrel....ya know?
no? its just me then.
Anyway, the operahouse is everything i thought it will be. Well, for one, it is enormus, it turns out great in photos. Saw the Sydney Symphony Orchestra perform today. Ravel's Romances, an entire concerts featuring his music during his spanish year, 1907. And no, i did not know that before i went to see it. The very experience of being inside the operahouse was surreal, and to be part of all the history and the significance of the building is actually very humbling. you see the history on the walls, literally, and the scene of the concert hall, the image that shown over and over again in many places. To be sitting in there with 900 odd other people and taking into the whole experience feels awe-inspiring. It also helped that it was a matinee performance ended at about 330. When i came out of the concert hall, the drizzle stopped and the sun came out, slowly, and you could see parts of the city being lighted up by the sun emerging from the clouds. Then the Wind started blowing, and my shirt was filled with the gust of the south pacific breeze. hahahahahah.... right..... how many times do you catch me feeling like that?
Also, one thing i noticed, is that this is the only performance i watched, that there was not a single person putting their hands together between movements. The silence that was respected when the conductor put his baton down ever so slightly and when the musicians were turning their pages was the first that i have experienced. Its lovely. However, i am not sure if people were actually supposed to clap between movements of this particular concert. As i said earlier, its a suite, and suites are made for dances. In this cast, there was ballet and waltz in mind when ravel wrote it. So, after each dance, the performers should be rewarded with applauses right? ah... no matter.. the silence is great anyway:)
Okie Dokes... gonna head back to my hotel in a bit, coming home on the 20th, wednesday. and then im gonna start to find work. I gotta start to earn my own keep.
Bye for now! :D
