Beyerdynamic SX10 Sports Edition

Introducing my latest earphone! the Beyerdynamic SX10 Sports Edition!

(ok, i've had it for about a month now, but its only recently that i actually used it)

I got it from Jaben the other time i was there when clarence got his Beyerdynamics too. But his is the $480 DT 160.. so yeah.... hmmm.

Anyway, For $38, i got myself a pair of lightweight running earphones, that will help me a lot in my quest to run my first marathon in under 4 hours. *crosses fingers*

What i love about these, is that, they fit really nicely around the back of your head, and they don't move around by themselves. Thats real useful because after about 5 min, you don't feel that they are around, but you still get decent sound coming from your music source, in my case, my ipod.

The quality of sound from the earphone is also something to be commended on as well, Beyerdynamic really lives up to its name as an audio products powerhouse, by delivering good solid sound to even its lower-end products. Despite the fact that these are non-intrusive, i.e, not IEMs, and the sound drivers are placed almost perpendicularly to your ear channel(will touch on more later), it still deliver my music with enough bass(not surprising) and decent clarity (very surprising).

The perpendicular placement of the sound drivers are especially important in a running earphone such as this, because, most people run on roads, where there are harzards, so having your whole earchannel blocked by a earbud, that seals in the sound from your source and blocks everything else out, is not a good idea. With this earphone, the designers and engineers managed to achieve the openness of ambience sound without compromising the sound quality.

The connecting cable to this is one of the lightest and thinnest i've seen, which is great, because it minimizes weight and the tension when one runs. The problem of running with a regular earphone is that unless you tape your wires toyour body, they are going to bob around all over the place, and that will result in a tugging resultant on your primary connection. Over time and distance, this will cause the sealing and connection to deterioriate. Hence, damaging your earphones. With this lightweight design of the wire, this is a no-issue :)

After all the good stuff thats been said however, there are somethings that i'm not that happy with.

Because its a lightweight foldable earphone, it looks really flimsy, and i run the constant risk of squashing it when i pack it into my bag. So yeah..... i guess it has to go on top of everything then.

Also, its quite ugly, and only available in one color, like the Ford Model T.

All in all, its a very good earphone for running, lightweight, comfortable, good sound, safe and well, err, branded. So if you'd want something to run with, and will not mind it in black and being ugly, i'd strongly recommend it!

My verdict: 8.5/10
