i had a wonderfully long weekends doing equally wonderful things with wonderful friends.. Lots of Great food, music, art.... the perfect combination to a fantastic weekend.
At the Rachael Yamagata concert, watched it with debroah, which i thought was err.. okay only.. music wise, but her rapport with the audience was really great.. And she has really quite a well, out of the ordinary sense of humor.. and she really enjoys taking digs at her "foxy" drummer; tearin' it up ever since they've got here, and the 4 floors of vice at orchard tower..
Her whole attitude throughout the concert was rather cynical, despondent, and even a little whiny actually. Well, whiny mainly because most of her inspiration in her songs were all from heartbreak when some guy dumped her..
Also, she didnt really take herself and her music seriously during the concert, seen through the numerous crackings of her voice and her mis-played chords... thats unforgivable!!!!!!!!!!!
But i guess she handled the mistakes quite well.
overall, a concert i probably wont remmeber for very long.
Some memorable quotes from yamagata's concert.
"im like the whore of Singapore. -turns to band- Oh My God, did i just say that?"
"i think no one will compare me to norah jones ever after tonight's concert"
"i want your phone number too, then we'll get together, and then you'll ditch me and i'll cry and write songs about what a dick you are and sing it to my you guys."
The tokyo Ska paradise Orchestra was a totally different experience. People were moshing about in the stalls from the first note. And the clapping along and dancing of the Ska fans was too infectious throughout the 4 levels of esplanade. The band was really tight, and solos were all damn solid.. There was just so much energy in the group on and off the stage.
This was encapsulated very well with what the only comprehendable thing the band said in their performance.. You'll have to imagine an out of breath Jap guy saying it in heavily accented english.
"WE ARE DOING ENERGY TRANSFER!! THE MORE ENERGY YOU GIVE US, WE GIVE BIGGER ENERGY BACK!! SO PLEASE GIVE US BIG BIG ENERGY!!!!!!!"
and it was done to wonderful effect... :)
