National day ideas..

hello all, i spent this year's national day at line's for the first part, where we had this popiah party, cum caroline and joanne's farewell as they seek greener pastures and thicker books in cornell and york respectively.

This is actually the first food-themed thingie that friends have put up(and invited me..). i must say that its actually quite fun! People worked real hard to get everything ready for this occasion.. thanks jamie, tatt and grace!! Furthermore, now i know how to fold a proper popiah!! the sauce dripping monsster that i created initially was rather unconsumable to the eye, but what the hell, i think it was digested anyway... But now i know the proper way of folding a nice round, tight(ass!!) popiah!! thanks geow!

then came home to watch the ndp 2006, the last one to be held at the national stadium. I suppose being in the army and all, now i understand some of the commands that the parade commander is screaming out. I always found that quite irritating when he has to do the salute with the sword.. it takes like what, 15 seconds to do a salute.. and you have to salute the president quite a couple of times... man.. i think 5 min of the whole parade was spent saluting various people.

Also, this year my battery i is involved in the marching contigent, and they form the 2 and the 0 in the 2006 thingie.. I could actually identify some of them through the mass of green and camo cream..


At line's house, i had an idea.. why doesnt someone make some fast food chain thing using popiahs?? ya know, someone can make branded popiahs and make it look really hip!
it can be conducted in either the DIY method, where people take their skins, go to this buffet like containers and pick out wheir favourite fillings, sauces and whathaveyous... ya know.. the other is to do it subway style! you go in, then there is actually instructions on how to order your popiah! like, step 1, choose a skin, flour based, rice based, high fiber, smooth whatever.. im sure different kinds of skins can be invented. i can even have those super healthy ones thats wrapped in lettuce.. ya know, mos burgur style..

then choose either for your popiah to be hot or cold, depends on the fillings inside, we can also have those black pepper beef streaks, or teriyaki chicken popiah! or you can have traditional ones, we can call that the signature whatever popiah.. its making me hungry already..

the shop can be named pOpIah!~ the upper and lower case with the bright pink design which will appeal to the ah lian group, and they will drag their other ah lian friends and ah beng boyfriends to eat at MY pOpIah!! isnt it such a great idea??

Then if that is successful, i can set up something else that will appeal to the rest of the people in singapore.(i think far ahead) we shall call it SKINWRAP!! which will serve exactly the same food, but have english songs playing inside and have quite mellow decor compared to pOpIAh!~ then the staff will wear those white masks with the headscarf that has SKINWRAP printed on it, and wear whose disposable plastic gloves to roll the popiahs.

Yup, thats about it for now. you have the general idea of what it roughly will be like, so if you see something like that along your streets, in your heartland mall next time, remember, you heard it here first!!!!!!
